One of the major innovation hubs for the South Korean tech giant in the globe, Samsung Research and Development Institute India-Bangalore (SRI-B), collaborated with academic institutions to create the Hindi translation for Galaxy AI, the line of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for Samsung products. The partnership encompassed tonal inflections, colloquialisms, and twenty distinct regional dialects of the language. The Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), one of the main collaborators, helped find a lot of data to train the big language model.

Hindi is being developed by SRI-B for Galaxy AI

Samsung India emphasized the contribution of its research and development center and academic partners to the development of Galaxy AI’s comprehension of the local language in a blog post on its website. According to the corporation, more customers will be able to utilize these capabilities in their local tongue as it works to expand Galaxy AI into other worldwide languages. Some of the on-device services, such Live Translate, Interpreter, Note Assist, and Browsing Assist, are improved by the language capabilities.

SRI-B collaborated with VIT to develop the Hindi language for the AI suite. According to the article, the academic institute was involved in the source of around a million lines of segmented and curated audio data on words, instructions, and conversational speech.

The large degree of regional variety in Hindi made it impossible to provide high-quality data, which was the driving force behind the partnership. Twenty distinct regional dialects, tone inflections, punctuation, and colloquialisms were covered by the SRI-B team.

As part of its Students Ecosystem for Engineered Data (SEED) Labs strategy, Samsung built a facility for VIT in 2021. According to the business, the lab is outfitted with state-of-the-art sound absorption technology, binaural microphones, head and torso simulators, and hearing aids. Additionally, it asks for projects on which interns, faculty members, and students can collaborate with tech company technical expertise.

Notably, SRI-B worked with groups all around the world to create artificial intelligence language models in Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Australian English, Indian, and British languages. The research center was requested to create the Hindi language for Galaxy AI as it was thought to play a crucial role.
