Shubman Gill has been named captain of the Gujarat Titans for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Following the official transfer of original captain Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians, the 2022 champions revealed their captain.
“Over the last two years, Shubman Gill has shown growth in stature and standing at the highest level of the game,” said Gujarat Titans director of cricket Vikram Solanki. He has shown growth as a leader in cricket as well as a hitter. Through his on-field contributions, the Gujarat Titans have become a formidable force, leading the team to a successful 2022 campaign and a successful 2023 campaign. His on-field performance demonstrates his maturity and competence, and we are thrilled to start a new path with a young leader like Shubman in charge.”
“I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for their trust in me to lead such a fine team,” Shubman Gill stated in response to the news. We have enjoyed two fantastic seasons, and I am excited to lead the squad in our thrilling style of cricket.”
In his two IPL seasons thus far, Gill has participated in 33 games for the Titans and amassed an amazing 1373 runs in scoring. Despite his incredible 890 runs in 16 games in 2023, GT finished runners-up in 2023, however he was a part of the team’s 2022 title victory.
MI welcome Hardik Pandya (Back)
Pandya has joined the Mumbai Indians in the meantime. “We are overjoyed to have Hardik return home! Our reunion with our Mumbai Indians relatives is really touching! Hardik has gone a long way from being a young Mumbai Indians scouted prospect to now being a star for Team India, and we’re eager for what’s ahead for him and the team!”
“Seeing Hardik back at Mumbai Indians makes me very happy,” Akash Ambani stated. I’m pleased to be returning home. Any team he plays for benefits greatly from his balance. We hope Hardik’s second term with the MI family is even more successful than his first, which was incredibly successful.
“Hardik returns to the #OneFamily, where he reunites with the team, Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rohit Sharma. In 2016, he made his debut for India after initially gaining notoriety for MI, according to a MI announcement.
Pandya initially joined MI in 2015 and played with them until the 2021 season. Following his release, he signed with the Gujarat Titans, who were new to the league, right away. During his two seasons with the Titans, he guided them to the championship in 2022 (the team’s first season) and the runners-up spot in 2023. He has participated in 92 matches over seven seasons with MI, amassing over 1400 runs and claiming 42 wickets.
