With the release of the Mi 3 smartphone in 2014, the Chinese business made its debut in the Indian smartphone market. In the years that followed, it set up seven plants in the nation that can produce three smartphones per second, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “Made in India” campaign. Its product line has grown to include wearables, power banks, iPads, and smart TVs.
According to Xiaomi, 99% of the smartphones it sells in India are produced locally, and 65% of their value is obtained locally. It began a trial effort in December 2023 to export cellphones to countries including Bangladesh and Nepal.
As part of its tenth anniversary festivities, Xiaomi India announced on June 26 the launch of the “Swasth Mahila Swasth Bharat” campaign in collaboration with the Yuvraj Singh Foundation (YouWeCan). Over 1,50,000 women in 15 Indian states will get early cancer tests thanks to this campaign over the course of the next 12 months.
